Principal’s Message

  • Monterey Families,

Welcome back! We hope your summer was restful and you are ready  for a great year at Monterey.  We hope you have been reading all summer and can share some exciting things that you have seen and learned in your travels.

We will be focusing this year in Literacy and Math on our      comprehension skills: understanding what we are reading, authors’ purpose and message in our literature and what the problem is really asking us in our math work.

Please remember the day starts at 7:50am for those who are joining us for breakfast.  The bell rings to enter the classroom at 8:05am and the tardy bell at 8:20am.  All students should be in the classroom and ready to learn at that time.

Our day ends at 2:30pm. Bus riders exit the North door, car riders exit the front of the building, while walkers exit the back thru the cafeteria.  ALL CAR RIDERS should meet their rides in the front of the building. Any student who exits the cafeteria to a waiting vehicle is not following the established routines set in place for safety.  Getting into a vehicle in the back lot is not permitted as it can interrupt the traffic flow causing accidents with cars exiting the established traffic pattern or to students who are walking.  These patterns are set in place for supervision and safety of your child.  Please comply.

Any changes in transportation should be in the office prior to 1pm in writing. With over 500 children to get safely to their destination, consistency is key.  Students should have ONE predictable routine to get home each day to avoid confusion, delay or a lost child.

Welcome. We have been waiting for our old friends to return. You’ve been  missed and we look forward to our new friends joining our community.  You are all a treasure.
