Principal’s Message
November, 2024
Dear Monterey Families:
As we head into November, a month focused on being thankful, I cannot help but continue to express my gratitude towards our staff and our families for a great first quarter together! I challenge all of us to reflect and show our gratitude this month. Specifically I would like to give everyone an avenue to tell a teacher or a staff member why you are thankful for them! Fill out the THANKFUL THOUGHTS form to express your gratitude towards any staff member; a special current or past teacher, aide, custodian and so on! Each morning I will review new responses and send them to each staff member throughout the day, and for the entire month of November!
I am excited to announce that starting this quarter we have developed a system to increase our social emotional instruction in the classroom. We are extremely fortunate to have a student support liaison on staff! You may have heard your child come home and talk about Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith has a passion for supporting students and social emotional learning. Twice a month Mr. Smith will go into each classroom and teach a lesson around a specific topic or trait! We are also starting to explore the Zones of Regulation and giving students tools to help self regulate and problem solve.
Thank you to the families that participated in our beginning of year survey! We received 119 responses which represented 137 of our students. This represents about 32% of our student population. While I am pleased with the results, I am also very aware that this only represents a third of our population and families. It is important that you and your child have a voice! I will send out a mid-year survey at the end of January to continue to monitor our families' sense of belonging, sense of safety and to receive feedback on communication!
Colder months are officially upon us, of course with the expectation that in Ohio you can experience all seasons in a single week. Please see a note from our clinic of things to watch for if your child is ill and some preventative measures! As always attendance is extremely important and something that our school and district is tracking very closely! As always for any and all absences, communicate with the office if your child will not be at school for any reason!
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Best,
Amanda Bradford-Jordan (Mrs. Jordan)
