Principal’s Message

Hello Monterey Families!
Welcome to the 2024 - 25 school year! I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the Monterey Elementary family and look forward to meeting each of you!
You might be wondering a little bit about me! This school year will be my 18th in education. I started out teaching in urban Charlotte, North Carolina as a 4th grade teacher for 5 years. Originally from Indiana, I moved back home in 2012 and transitioned to a literacy coach role for a rural school district on the eastside of Indianapolis. After 5 years of coaching I transitioned into the role of Dean of students for 2 years and then onto the district level as the director of ELL, Title 1 and PBIS. My heart has always been at the building level, so I transitioned to an assistant principal role back in my home town in the district I graduated from. Three years later I moved to Ohio and transitioned to an Assistant principal role in Gahanna Jefferson, which is where I have been the past two years. .
You might be asking what brought me to Ohio, and that would be my family! My husband Emery and I were married about a year and ½ ago, and I get the absolute pleasure of being the step-mom to his three incredible children. We have two dogs, and a busy life on the sports fields year round.
Communication is very important to me, and I have started by updating our website to make sure it is as user friendly and accessible as possible. You will find the calendar already has many of our activities posted that you can plan in advance. Open communication is key and a goal of mine, with that,I am always open to feedback from families! While I can’t promise every request or wish will be granted, please know it will always be considered.
Thank you in advance for your grace during this time of transition, while we won’t always get it perfect the first time, we will always take something with us to improve for the nex time.
We are excited to welcome you during our back to school open house on Monday August 19th from 4 PM to 5:30PM.
We are going to have an incredible year, working together, doing what is best for kids!
