Happy New Year Mustangs!
Dear Monterey Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you and your family had a restful and joyful winter break. It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to school, and I am excited to share that we had a great first week of 2026.
We began the week by coming together as a school family to review our schoolwide expectations—the 3 Be’s:
Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Responsible. Our students did an excellent job revisiting what these expectations look like across our school, and we are proud of the positive start they have made.
We also introduced a fun new schoolwide incentive called Jar Wars! This friendly competition encourages positive behavior and teamwork across grade levels. Classes earn different colored “fuzzies” for demonstrating the 3 Be’s throughout the school day. As jars fill up, grade levels will work toward earning special celebrations and rewards. The excitement from our students has already been wonderful to see!
In addition, we are excited to kick off our Read-A-Thon Fundraiser in conjunction with our One School, One Book experience featuring Three Good Deeds. The Read-A-Thon will run from January 12th–23rd, and every student who raises $25 will earn a coin for our book vending machine! Family book bags, activities, and fundraising information all came home today, Friday, January 9th, so please be sure to check backpacks daily for important materials and updates.
Finally, our next round of diagnostic testing will take place from Monday, January 12th through January 30th. We are excited to see the growth our students have made throughout the first two quarters of the school year and appreciate your support in ensuring students are well-rested and ready to do their best.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to a fantastic start to 2026!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Jordan, Principal, Monterey Elementary
